Week 2 Predictions

If you want an idea on what will be happening on most of the games this weekend, here's how our staffers see the games unfolding:

#21 MISSOURI (1-0) @ ARIZONA STATE (1-0)
Friday, Sept. 9 | 8:30 pm MT | ESPN

ZACHI am going against my better judgment. Picking Arizona State to actually live up to its preseason ranking? I may very well regret this. ASU 27 MIZZOU 23
BRETT: I will never pick Arizona State in games like this. MIZZOU 30 ASU 26
DJThis is a toughy. Arizona State has had so many injuries...but I just don't think Mizzou is #21 in the country. ASU 34 MIZZOU 31
BRADFORDAll I know about Missouri is that they only beat Miami (OH) 17-6 last week. All I know about Arizona State is that Dennis Erickson underachieves every season and LB Vontaze Burfict is a freak. No idea why I'm picking Erickson's team, but I think the Sun Devils win at home. ASU 24 MIZZOU 14

SATURDAY

OREGON STATE (0-1) @ #8 WISCONSIN (1-0)
10:00 am MT | ESPN

ZACHWisconsin murdered UNLV. Oregon State was nipped by Sacramento freaking State. Hide Yo! WISC 42 OSU 17
BRETT: Team #AllRussellWilsonEverything. WISC 41 OSU 20
DJThis is not a toughy. WISC 45 OSU 21
BRADFORDThis one has blowout written all over it but Mike Riley's teams usually play their best when there isn't much expected from them. The Badgers will win but I'm not expecting a blowout. WISC 45 OSU 28

SAN DIEGO STATE (1-0) @ ARMY (0-1)
10:00 am MT | CBS Sports

ZACHLindley and Hillman should have a big day. SDSU 38 ARMY 23
BRETT: Army got roasted by a dynamic offense last week against Northern Illinois. Could be more of the same here. SDSU 45 ARMY 20
DJThe Aztecs are too much for Army. SDSU 38 ARMY 25
BRADFORD: Lindley and Hillman will be too much for the Black Knights. SDSU 31 ARMY 21

NEVADA (0-0) @ #13 OREGON (0-1)
1:30 pm MT | FX

ZACHThe Wolf Pack are in a terrible spot. Oregon is dazed, yet hungry. The Ducks will have space all over the field, especially when compared to last week's loss to LSU. Ducks roll. OREGON 52 NEVADA 20
BRETT: It's really hard to see Oregon letting this one slip after last week. Nevada will have too many questions on offense to make this a game. OREGON 41 NEVADA 10
DJNevada has to replace Kaepernick and it ain't happening at Autzen. OREGON 45 NEVADA 14
BRADFORDNevada has historically struggled in season openers against BCS conference teams and they'll be breaking in a new QB -- not a good recipe. OREGON 45 NEVADA 17

#25 TCU (0-1) at AIR FORCE (1-0)
1:30 pm MT | Versus

ZACHI picked the Falcons in the preseason. I didn't expect the Frogs to lose Week 1 and be ready for redemption. TCU's rush defense will be tested against the Falcons. AFA 31 TCU 29
BRETT: TCU's salvo could be having faced the Air Force option numerous times. Toughest pick of the week. AFA 24 TCU 23
DJTCU will struggle against Air Force, but they will barely pull it off. TCU 35 AFA 32
BRADFORDFortunately for the Horned Frogs, Air Force only attempted nine passes last week but I'm still not sure their young defense will be ready for the Falcon's offense. This one was a toss-up for me. AFA 28 TCU 27

CALIFORNIA (1-0) @ COLORADO (0-1)
Non-Conference Game
1:30 pm MT | FCS-Pacific

ZACHCalifornia was more impressive than expected in a Week 1 win over Fresno. Colorado was blitzed by Hawaii. This one will be low scoring. CAL 17 CU 14
BRETT: It would be just like either of these teams to claim a Pac-12 win when it doesn't count as one. Hmmm. CU 27 CAL 21
DJColorado had a good opportunity to win in Hawaii. I would consider picking them but they suck. CAL 27 CU 20
BRADFORDBoth teams played WAC opponents last week - Cal beat Fresno State 36-21 while Colorado lost to Hawaii 34-17. CAL 28 CU 24

HAWAII (1-0) @ WASHINGTON (1-0)
1:30 pm MT | Root Sports

ZACH: Hawaii dominated Colorado in every aspect last Saturday. Washington needed late-game heroics to survive Bo Levi Mitchell and the Eastern Washington Eagles. The Warrior O is equally prolific. Should pick Hawaii, no? Not if you ever seen Hawaii play outside of the Islands. Totally different team. WASH 34 HAW 24
BRETT: I've played this game before Hawaii. Not this time. Prove me wrong! WASH 30 HAW 20
DJThis will be a fun game to watch. Hawaii is the better team, but Washington is a very difficult place to play. On a limb, I'll take the better team. HAW 34 WASH 31
BRADFORDHawaii was more impressive against a Pac-12 team (Colorado) than Washington was against a FCS team (Eastern Washington) last week. Unfortunately for the Pac-12 I think the rough start continues. HAW 31 WASH 28

UNLV (0-1) @ WASHINGTON STATE (1-0)
3:00 pm MT

ZACHJeff Tuel's injury poured salt on the already open and gaping wound that is Wazzu football. The UNLV offense had its moments against Wisconsin. I think this one will be closer than the experts think. WAZZU 28 UNLV 20
BRETT: Perhaps this could be a breakthrough for UNLV? Maybe not. WAZZU 38 UNLV 28
DJMiserable. WAZZU 31 UNLV 14
BRADFORDPaul Wulff has been at WSU longer than Bobby Hauck has been at UNLV and should have a more talented roster since he's in the Pac-12. WAZZU 31 UNLV 24

BYU (1-0) @ #24 TEXAS (1-0)
5:00 pm MT | ESPN2

ZACHFresh off its dispatching of Rice, Texas will have its first test of the season. BYU's defense was terrific against Ole Miss. It's offense was lethargic. The Longhorns are in for a battle. Texas will win the fourth quarter. TEXAS 23 BYU 17
BRETT: While BYU will have some of the kinks worked out on offense, I think Texas will exploit the defense over the top. TEXAS 38 BYU 27
DJBYU's front 7 looked amazing. Texas struggled until a trick play opened it up against Rice. It's still BYU on the road though. TEXAS 31 BYU 24
BRADFORDJake Heaps has a year of experience and Bryan Harsin installed Boise State's offense down in Austin after last year's debacle. I'm sure both teams would love a 2-0 start after their struggles last season but I think the Longhorns get it done at home. TEXAS 27 BYU 21

UTAH (1-0) @ USC (1-0)
5:30 pm MT | Versus

ZACHBoth Utah and USC looked inconsistent in their Week 1 openers. Utah's defensive backfield will be tested by the prowess of Robert Woods. The Utah front seven must stop the run. This one will be close. USC 28 UTAH 27
BRETT: Marc Tyler's return is welcome for USC. If Utah can't develop a more diverse passing game, they might struggle to score. USC 30 UTAH 21
DJBoth teams didn't look good, so give the nod to the home team. USC 32 UTAH 14
BRADFORD: Neither team was impressive last week. After USC's terrible performance last week against Minnesota I have no idea why I think the Trojans will win, but I do. USC 29 UTAH 24

WEBER STATE (0-1) @ UTAH STATE (0-1)
6:00 pm MT | ESPN3.com

ZACHUtah State was handed one of the most disheartening losses I can remember. Weber State also lost in the final minute. Truth is, Utah State's offense looked terrific in Week 1. Chuckie Keeton may very well be a star. USU 45 WEBER 17
BRETT: Charles E Keeton was a revelation to the entire nation last week at Auburn. Weber State might be better than expected this year, but the Aggies should have this one. USU 37 WEBER 20
DJUSU could suffer a hangover loss much like VT did against James Madison last year after losing to Boise St. You can't count on it to happen though (because Weber State did the same thing).USU 38 WEBER 28
BRADFORDThere's no reason the Aggies should lose to Weber State at home. USU 38 WEBER 21
