WAC's Greatest Hits

Mad props to @BadWillHunting for passing this along -- the WAC released this unintentional IN MEMORIAM just three weeks ago:

Official: Utah State unveils new logos, uniforms

Utah State unveiled its new logos today in a press conference Saturday afternoon in Logan, Utah. Below is the full library of what was released, and some interesting quotes from AD Scott Barnes that pretty much confirm reports that Utah State is going to the Mountain West.

WAC back on life support as UTSA leads next wave of conference realignment

Late last night, RowdyReport.com posted big news for UT-San Antonio faithful. It was findings in the agenda for the UT System Board of Regents to give UTSA authorization to accept an invitation to join Conference USA. This morning, the venerable Brett McMurphy has spoken, and now Louisiana Tech, Utah State, and San Jose State all seem to be headed to new pastures in 2013. The WAC is on life support, at least as a football conference.

Utah State logos part 2: Utah trademark office tips USU's hand on true logos

After initially posting Ben Barnes's proposed designs for Utah State, it became apparent that they were a few years old. Then, Ben himself said they were not involved in final consideration. But when I saw them, they were so well done, and from a legitimate designer, that I had to pass them along.

Now that it's apparent those will not be the new logos revealed next Saturday, I have come upon filings Utah State made with the Utah Trademark Manager in early March. There are no pictures, but yes, there are descriptions. So let's play the game again: according to the filings with the Utah Trademark Manager, what is in store for USU's reveal?

New Utah State Logos ...?

Today on the radio, Utah State football coach Gary Anderson said that the school is getting new athletic logos and uniforms. Apparently, according to current- and former-journos Kraig Williams and Jared Eborn, this was widely known as a reveal is set to occur next Saturday at the Aggies' spring football game. With a tip from a friend, I found these logos (below the jump). Is this what Aggie fans will see in a week?

Utah State spans coasts, signs JUCO pair

Utah State basketball added some depth and athleticism to its team recently, adding two junior-college players to its roster. News of the first came over the weekend, as Marvin Jean, an athletic 6-5 wing from Sullivan County Community College in New York, signed with Stew Morrill. This past season, Jean averaged 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game while shooting 41% (40% from three) from the field.

The second came today, a 6-3 guard from Yuba Community College named Spencer Butterfield. Yuba was 33-4 last season, and Butterfield averaged 16.3 points and a whopping 8.3 rebounds per game for a guard. The California JUCO Player of the Year can shoot, too, recording percentages of 54.3% overall FG, 48.2% 3PT, and 81.2% at the line.

The additions have Utah State primed to be one of, if not the most, athletic teams in the WAC. These two signees join Kyisean Reed and Preston Medlin as a strong group of off-guards/wings, while 6-10 F/C Jarred Shaw, a transfer from Oklahoma State, will be eligible next year. If the Aggies can find someone to step into the point guard void vacated by Brockeith Pane, Morrill and Co. could have a solid team on their hands.
